A Journey Through Time
Our story is one of growth, service, and commitment to the people we serve. Here’s a look at how we got here:
June 15, 1925: Citizens Gas Coke & Utility Credit Union is formed, laying the foundation for a member-first financial institution.
June 20, 1934: The IPALCO Credit Union is chartered—just days before the formation of the Credit Union National Association (CUNA; now America's Credit Unions), showing our deep connection to the credit union movement
November 4, 2002: We expand with the opening of our Petersburg office, increasing access for our members
December 14, 2006: Energy Plus Credit Union is officially formed through the merger of IPALCO and Citizens Gas Coke & Utility Credit Unions, uniting members of Indianapolis Power & Light, Citizens Energy Group, and their subsidiaries
October 1, 2007: EPCU joins the Co-Op Shared Branching network, expanding convenience for members nationwide, and paving the way for..
July 28, 2015: A historic milestone—EPCU welcomes local communities into its membership, transitioning from a closed-chartered institution to a credit union open to more people than ever before.
